Air India launches New Delhi-New York non-stop flight

Air IndiaNew Delhi, Feb. 8: Scoring another first, India's international carrier, Air India, today introduced non-stop flights between Delhi and New York.

A press release issued by the airline said that It has deployed a state-of-the-art Boeing 777-200LR (Longer Range) for this service, and added that with this launch the flying time between New Delhi and New York has been reduced to fifteen hours.

It maybe recalled that Air India had commenced a non-stop flight between Mumbai and New York from August 1, 2007.

The 238-seater aircraft that will ply between the Indian capital and the "Big Apple" will have eight first class seats, 35 executive class seats and 195 economy class seats.

The flight will depart from New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport at 00:30 hrs (IST) and arrive at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport at 05:45 hrs. (New York Time). It will depart from New York at 16:00 hrs. (New York Time) and arrive in New Delhi at 16:30 hrs.

Each first class seat is 23 inches wide, with a seat pitch of 80 inches, and will have the feature of transforming into a fully horizontal flat
77 inches long and 31 inches wide bed. For those wishing to hold face-to-face discussions with a colleague while travelling on board, a buddy seat has been provided. Facility for a convenio service i. e. meals at times preferred by a passenger will also be provided.

Executive class seats will be 19.5 inches wide with a seat pitch of 76 inches and will have the facility of transforming into a 72 inches long and 26.5 inches wide flat bed. A divider has been provided between seats for privacy.

Passengers opting for the economy class will have unmatched legroom, enhanced service and comfort levels. Each ergonomically designed seat will have a therapeutic footrest installed in front for added comfort during the long-haul travel.

Passengers will get to select their choice of programmes from over 250 hours of video and 150 hours of audio programming. First class passengers will be able to view video programmes on a 23 inch monitor; while those in the executive class will have access to a 15 inch monitor. The economy class passenger will have access to a 10.4 inch monitor.

Air India rolled out the red carpet for those travelling on the new flight for the first time. First class and executive class passengers will get a free limousine pick up and drop service toand from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport and at New York's JFK Airport at the time of departure/arrival. Additionally, they will receive a gift voucher of USD 75 and USD 50 respectively for each sector of travel for onboard duty free shopping.
