Children as young as 11 indulging in binge drinking

binge drinking Survey by the NHS Information Centre revealed a shocking fact. The survey found that children as young as 11 are indulging in binge drinking.

Under the annual Smoking, Drinking and Drug Use Among Young People survey researchers questioned 550,000 11 to 15-year-olds in 263 secondary schools in England.

Researchers found that children are drinking the equivalent of 15 shots of vodka a week which is more than the recommended limit for adult women.

Some children said that on average they drink 14.6 units of alcohol a week.

One in five children surveyed said they had drunk in the last week.

Nearly two-thirds of those said they drank more than four units in a single evening, the safe limit for grown-up men. Out of these 62% were boys and 57% were girls.

During NHS survey 31% of 11-to-15-year-olds admitted that they had been drinking alcohol in the past month. Around 53% of these children said they had been drunk at that time.

More than one in 10 said they had been drunk once or twice in the month while 6% saying they had been drunk three or more times.

Study also revealed that amount of alcohol drank by young people has increased from 2007.
