Nano clears European crash tests; silences critics
Tata group has a reason to cheer as its Rs. 1 lakh small car 'Nano' is set to get place in the international market. Nano has successfully passed the 40 per cent offset crash test at 56 kph, confirming that the car is safe for driving. It has also got safety certification, clearing the side-impact tests at the MIRA crash test facility.
The company made some changes in the vehicle to ensure its conformity with international safety standards. An additional airbag, additional support to the bumper and some changes in the front longitudinal structure were made, increasing the weight of vehicle by 18 kg.
Tata autos is now making efforts to get four-star rating for the Nano Europa, the European version of Nano, which the firm is set to launch across the continent.
Nano has already passed all norms as specified by Indian laws, including the frontal impact test at 48 kph, roof crush and side door impact tests. However, it was needed for the firm to establish standards according to the international laws, to silence the international critics who held the opinion that Nano does not satisfy anti-crashing norms.
