Cars will now be able to communicate with each other to prevent “collisions or accidents”
You might have seen talking cars in science fictions, but now you will see these cars in reality. Soon, the cars, which will be able to communicate with each other to prevent collisions, will be running roads.
Scientists have developed a set of algorithms, which will help future robotic cars to communicate with each other to avoid collisions or accidents. The mathematical equations, which will direct robotic cars how to change lanes safely, have been developed by the team of scientists led by Indian-origin scientists Dr Bhibhya Sharma and Dr Utesh Chand of the University of the South Pacific.
Dr Sharma has explained that the series of mathematical equations will help instructing robotic cars when and how to merge lanes, which will help in minimizing the possibilities of accidents and in easing traffic congestions. The communicating cars will be controlled by centralized brains guided by series of algorithms. The brains will help the cars to communicate with each other and instruct the cars to merge lanes and move in formation together.
Dr Sharma has further explicated that flocking was a biologically-inspired technique and strategy commonly used in robotics. The researchers presented their findings at the 1st Rim Mathematical Association (PRIMA) conference that was held in Sydney.
