21 people killed in separate bus mishaps in Meghalaya, Assam
Guwahati, Jan. 30: At least 21 people, including 10 members of a marriage party, died in two separate accidents in Meghalaya and Assam on Wednesday.
Reports reaching here said eleven passengers were killed after a Guwahati-Silchar bus skidded off the road and fell into a over 100-metre-deep gorge near Mawryngkneng, about 40 km from Shillong, in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya.
There were 40 passengers in the bus that belonged to the Assam State Transport Corporation. The remaining 29 escaped with minor injuries and were being treated at the Shillong Civil Hospital when reports last came in.
In Assam, ten members of a marriage party, including six women, were killed and 13 injured when their mini bus collided with a truck at Gejengaguri in lower Assam's Sonitpur district on National Highway 52.
Seven persons, including the driver, died on the spot while the others succumbed to injuries while being taken to the Kanaklata Civil Hospital.
Two of the injured have been admitted to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital as their condition was stated to be serious.
The bus was returning to Tezpur after dropping the bride at Orang, reports said. (ANI)
