Srinagar remain tense after Muharram sectarian clashes
Srinagar, Jan 21: The situation in Srinagar is tense as sectarian clashes that broke out on late Saturday evening continued for the third day.
The trouble started when people belonging to two sects of Muslims, Shias and Sunnis clashed on the eve of Muharram at Hawal, causing damage to several vehicles and windowpanes of nearby houses.
The police had to resort to firing and baton charge on a violent mob.
Several vehicles were damaged and dozens of people reportedly injured in the sectarian violence that broke out at the Shia dominated locality.
The police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in large number to control the situation with senior officials of police and the civil administration monitoring the situation at the spot. (ANI)
