Wealthy German denies theft of 300-dollar Prada bag in Hong Kong
Hong Kong - The wealthy German head of a mortgage corporation was Friday awaiting a verdict after standing trial accused of stealing a 300 US dollar Prada bag from a Hong Kong hotel bar.
Timo Woskowiak, 43, from Berlin, Asia-Pacific head of Hypo Real Estate, was arrested in November after allegedly taking the 360-dollar bag, which had been left at the bar of the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong where he was staying.
Police found the bag in his room and arrested him six days later, a court report in Friday's South China Morning Post said.
Woskowiak, who earned 580,000 US dollars including bonuses last year and owns two properties in Germany , denied a charge of theft, saying he planned to return the bag to the Prada store.
Asked why he did not hand the bag to bar staff, he said: "I have forgotten many things in hotels and when I called the hotel to ask staff if they could find my things, I never got anything back."
The adjourned the case to May 4 for a verdict. (dpa)
