Karachi, Apr. 5 : Pakistan selectors have made it clear that players who have joined the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL), would not be considered for the national squad even if they terminate their contract with the league.

“We wanted clarifications on whether we could consider the ICL players who have made themselves available for national selection. But we have been told by the cricket board they can’t be considered at this stage,” The Dawn quoted one of the selector, as saying.

A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official said that players could not be considered for selection ahead of the UAE series until they submit proof of terminating contract with the ICL.

However, the board has no objection over them playing in any other tournament elsewhere, the official said.

Players like Mohammad Yousuf and Abdul Razzaq had earlier expressed their desire to play for the national team saying that they were ready to terminate their contract with the ICL to facilitate their selection.

The Pakistan team for the UAE one day series against Australia would be announced on Monday, after the fitness report of the players is submitted following a series of extensive fitness trials.

Controversial fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar is likely to make a come back, as the chief selector Abdul Qadir has expressed satisfaction over his performance during the two day endurance tests conducted in Lahore.

“He bowled at around 140 kph in his eight-over spell and looked fit. But at the end of the day board’s doctor and team trainer have to give their final report to the board on the basis of which we will pick the final 15,” Qadir said. (ANI)
