Mexico City  - The Swede Sven-Goran Eriksson was sacked Thursday as Mexico's national football coach, a day after a 3-1 defeat in Honduras that put qualification for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa at risk.

Former England manager Eriksson had taken over as Mexico coach 10 months ago, following the sacking of Mexican football legend Hugo Sanchez. dpa
