EC disqualifies 3,423 candidates for not filing details of expenses

New Delhi, Mar 15 : The Election Commission has disqualified the candidature of 3,423 candidates for not filing the details of the expenses incurred during the last Lok Sabha or recent Assembly elections.

The EC said that the candidates have been disqualified for three years.

Most of the candidates, who have been disqualified, are from Uttar Pradesh (1,075) and Bihar (616). Of which 99 percent of the candidates were independents.

According to the EC, every candidate is required to file an account of expenses; if candidate does not comply an action would be taken under the Representation of the People Act.

Parliamentary elections will be held in April-May. (ANI)
