ICL All Set To Sue BCCI: Kapil Dev
Former India skipper Kapil Dev has criticized the BCCI for not giving an official status to the Indian Cricket League (ICL).
The talks between the BCCI and ICL officials failed for the second time in Johannesburg last week.
The ICC would now discuss the ICL issue at the ICC Board meeting in April.
Due to this, an irritated Kapil Dev now plans to take a legal action against the BCCI officials. Dev, the ICL chairman said that the legal process would be initiated shortly against the Indian cricket board.
Taking a dig at the BCCI, Dev said, “To me it's a very simple thing and we are just trying to promote the game. We are very proud and we will keep playing cricket. But it looks like the people who don't want to help the game are running it. The people looking after cricket in the country haven't played cricket at all.”
Commenting over the ICL future, Dev said, “The ICL will continue to exist. I don't see any reason for it not to, as long as our promoters provide us with the funding.” He feels that the ICL team has done everything possible to promote the game in the country.
It can be recalled that the ICL which is promoted by one of the country’s largest media firms launched the league following India's triumph in the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup in 2007. Several players especially from Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh are associated with ICL.
The Indian Cricket Board, BCCI, has always undermine ICL position and refused to give it an official status.
