Real art is seeing and capturing things that most of us miss. AFTER HRS was more than impressed by Chandrashekhar's work

Most of us see what is in front of us, but we rarely make an attempt to see beyond the obvious. But there are a few, who have explore the unexplored and portray ideas that guarantee to stun you. 

Such was the art of 23-year-old artist, Chandrashekhar, who has painted his vision in an extraordinary manner. He has painted life on canvas and has given his work depth and layers by using glass creatively. When asked the reason for giving life this glassy effect and portraying things like a chair as a woman, he says, “My art is like that of a small kid's, who just sketches whatever he assumes and not what the way the world sees it.”

He further explains by giving examples from his paintings, “A passing Scooty appears like a girl to me and when I sit and paint, the posture in which I do that feels like that of a tiger.”

What drives his out-of-the-box imagination? “It was in Udaipur that I picked up my style of working in layers,” he says citing the work seen at the crystal art gallery in the City Palace as his inspiration.

Chandrashekar hails from Rajgarh, Alwar and is presently a student of master of fine arts in Jaipur. His work has found place in the private collections of some big corporate houses and art collectors at this young age. Does such recognition at this age feel dreamlike? 

“I give credit to my supporters Alokji and Paras Kuhad and my teachers, who had faith in me,” he says. And how does his teacher Chinmay Mehta, feel about it? “He is my protégé. I am happy that he is doing great work, which is different from the league,” says Mehta, retire dean and faculty of fine arts, university of Rajasthan.

Tourism minister, Beena Kak was awestruck with his art. “I am a layperson when it comes to art, but he simply amazed me. His work took me into the era of dinosaurs. I was good at copying, but putting it down on canvas only comes from within,” the minister said, recalling her own efforts at painting some years ago.
