Munna Bhai Starts His Electoral Campaign From Lucknow
Munna Bhai aka the Bollywood actor and Samajwadi nominee from Lucknow Lok Sabha seat, Sanjay Dutt on Wednesday started his poll campaign by visiting the members of a family that had given shelter to his father Sunil Dutt, 60 years back.
Accompanied by wife Manyata and SP leader Amar Singh, Sanjay Dutt said, “Being here and with this family is bit nostalgic for me. I am feeling happy.”
Sanjay further said, “My father used to say that this is your family, but I could not find a chance to come and meet them. As my elder brother Amar Singh lives here, I finally got a chance to meet them. Now I feel that I have a family in Lucknow as well.”
Sanjay's father, the late Sunil Dutt, also a major star in Hindi films during the years of 1960s and 70s, was a five-time Congress MP while his sister Priya was elected to the Lok Sabha on a Congress ticket in a bye-election after Dutt's death.
While Sunil Dutt and Priya entered Lok Sabha on Congress tickets, Sanjay will contest as a SP candidate.
However, the 49 year old Bollywood star was convicted under the Arms Act and is out on bail, the SP would seek the permission of the Supreme Court, where the matter is pending, and the Election Commission to field him.
The prestigious Lucknow seat is represented by former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
But due to his poor state of health, it seems that the veteran BJP leader would not contest the elections. Therefore, all the other parties in the state are trying to wrest the seat from the saffron party.
While talking to the media persons at a luncheon, Sanju Baba said he is confident of getting the SC’s nod to enter the polls fray as he has not done anything wrong.
Sanjay visited Lucknow last month on January 17 after being named as the candidate for here.
