Fake soaps seized by the Police It might be very surprising to know but on Saturday, from a ration shop at Gelda Nagar in Ghatkopar (West), Ghatkopar Police arrested two persons and seized fake soaps bearing well-known brands worth Rs 62.60 lakh.

The Police reported, "The goods seized include brands Lux, Santoor and Lifebuoy besides over 1.4 lakh wrappers and soaps."

The Police arrested Shivprasad Gupta (20) and Surendra Kumar Singh (43), while the mastermind is at large. The arrested men, who have remanded in police custody till
12th January, have been booked under the copyright and trademark laws.

A police complaint made by Officials of Hindustan Unilever Ltd said that there is a gang, which is involved in the manufacture of duplicate soaps and wrappers of branded products.

The complaint stated, "The prices mentioned on these fake products were the same as that on the original ones. The wrappers are so similar to the original ones that it is difficult for a layman to distinguish the real one."

A raid was carried out by the officials of the Ghatkopar police station at the shop in Ghatkopar and seized the goods that were stored to be sold in bulk quantity in open market at a later stage.

The quality of the seized goods is really sub-standard.

"We have sent the samples to the laboratory for testing. Based on the report, further action will be taken against the arrested duo," concluded Sub-inspector Irfan Sheikh.
