Rooney confident of ManU topping English Premier League

Wayne RooneyLondon, Jan 12 : Ace striker Wayne Rooney has warned Liverpool that he is about to dump them off the top of the Premier League.

The England striker scored in Manchester United's 3-0 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday, The Sun reported.

They are now favourites to win the title and will overtake both Chelsea and Liverpool by Saturday night if they beat Wigan at home on Wednesday and then pick up another three points at Bolton on Saturday.

Rooney said: "After watching Liverpool's game on Saturday this was exactly what we needed. Now we could be top of the league by Saturday night. It is up to us now. We have got to win those two games before Liverpool play Everton on Monday. By Saturday night we want to look at that table and see ourselves top."

United are now a point behind Chelsea and five behind Liverpool after this comfortable victory.

Rooney added: "It was very important to get that goal just on half-time because I think Chelsea had enjoyed more possession than us before that. Walking in at half-time their heads seemed to go down."

"We knew if we attacked them in the second half they wouldn't live with us. In the second half they put two up front and the game opened up. We thoroughly deserved to win."

United boss Alex Ferguson agreed that Vidic's goal turned everything in the champions' favour.

He said: "That was crucial. It opened up the game and our midfield got far more space and 3-0 is a big scoreline in this game.

"It is significant for us because we are chasing Liverpool and, with our games in hand this result gets us near them."

United also still have to play at home Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa. (ANI)
