Fletcher warns Strauss of divisions in England dressing room

Andrew StraussLondon, Jan 10 : Duncan Fletcher has warned new captain Andrew Strauss that he could face huge divisions in the England dressing room.

Fletcher, who stood down in 2007 after seven years as coach, fears a clash of egos might present problems.

Kevin Pietersen is aware senior players such as Andrew Flintoff did not support him in his battle with the ECB over coach Peter Moores removal, The Sun reported.

Fletcher said: "Andrew Strauss will need the support of all the other players. He will need to be rated by the others as a cricketer, too, which is crucial for any leader."

"There are egos in that dressing room who could cause more problems for the new captain. Not the least of the difficulties will be how to handle KP when he returns to the rank and file," he said.

"Will the dressing room divide into pro and anti-KP camps? How will it gel? Will the new captain have the backing of all the senior players?" Fletcher asked.

Ex-skipper Michael Vaughan reckons Pietersen will continue to be England's No. 1 batsman.

He said: "What Kevin has to do in the West Indies is get a hundred in the First Test. Then the controversy will be forgotten."

Andy Flower is likely to be named in the next 24 hours as caretaker-coach for England's Caribbean tour. (ANI)
