No possibility of survival for 16-year-old missing teenage fisherman
Authorities have revealed that the search was abandoned Friday for a teenage fisherman whose vessel was hit by a ferry bound from Scotland to Belgium.
The Scotsman has reported that Fred Caygill of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said there was no possibility the 16-year-old could have survived.
It was also reported that the shrimping vessel Homeland was struck Thursday evening by the Scottish Viking off the Berwickshire coast. The vessel was crewed by two brothers, and the older one, 20, was plucked out of the water by another fishing boat, the Good Fellowship, which also made the first report of the sinking.
About 20 fishing boats joined an air and sea search for the missing teenager. The search was suspended for a few hours early Friday and resumed at dawn.
The report further noted that the Scottish Viking left the port of Rosyth at 5 p. m., about 3 hours before the collision, on an overnight voyage to Zeebrugge. The ferry was allowed to continue to Belgium after an hour's delay.
The brothers may be from North Shields near Newcastle, England, officials added further.
It was also reported that the Marine Accident Investigation Board is investigating the sinking. (With Inputs from Agencies)
