No Policy against Discussing Climate Change: Jonathan Steverson

Not a long time back, there were rumors that Florida Gov. Rick Scott had announced an unwritten ban on the use of few terms, including global warming and climate change. But it seems that the rumors were not true.

On Wednesday during a hearing, secretary of Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection, Jonathan Steverson said climate change three times. He also affirmed that he has taken the name climate change repeatedly three times. He also clarified that there is no such policy issued against climate change.

His proof that rumors are wrong was found to be convincing. Also, it also contradicts the reports of many former DEP employees and also of the ones employed by other state government officials. They have been told not to use these terms in official communications.

They also affirmed that not to use them scientific research articles, if possible. It is also said that a DEP communications official has asked scientists that they should not make any claims with regard to the cause of sea level rise while they take part in an interview with National Geographic.

Steverson also said in his hearing that climate change is happening always. Sterverson’s boss, Governor Rick Scott, is facing allegations over for asking his administration from not to use the term climate change or anything like that.

Sterverson did not agree with it. He affirmed, “In fact, we have multiple programs related to climate change. Within Florida Forever, we have a whole section set aside for climate change purposes”. It has happened for the first time that such a high post members of Scott’s team talked in a detailed manner about the allegations.

Sterverson was of the view that the thinking that Florida cannot talk freely about climate change and the risks posed by it on citizens is really unacceptable.
