Nintendo 3DS passes four million sales in Japan
The new Nintendo 3DS gaming system has reached a new milestone despite not having a desired start in the country and elsewhere. The console has crossed the four million sales mark in Japan.
The company has seen a difficult year as it experienced falling stocks after the lukewarm reaction to the 3DS initially. The company responded to the situation with a price cut, improving sales. Later the company further announced a price cut of $80, which increased sales three times for the console.
By the end of the year, the console was ready to touch the milestone of 4 million units sold in its home country alone. The company was able to sell 500,000 units of Nintendo 3DS. Meanwhile, the Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 game became the first games on the portable console to reach platinum status. The two games were launched in November and December, respectively and crossed the one million mark in sales.
Nintendo has already confirmed reports that it would offer paid downloadable content (DLC) in future games and the first game with paid downloadable content will be the new Fire Emblem: Kakusei.
Meanwhile, 3DS sales have been improving and had reached 1.65 million in November.
