Tokyo  - Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average hit a new 10-month high Friday on the US market's overnight gains.

The Nikkei rose 110.44 points, or 1.05 per cent, to 10,627.63, and the broader-based Topix index was also up 7.02 points, or 0.72 per cent, at 975.43.

On currency markets at 9 am (0000 GMT), the dollar traded at 95.27-32 yen, down from Thursday's 5 pm quote of 96.37-40 yen.

The euro traded at 1.4270-75 dollars, up from late Thursday's quote of 1.4248-51 dollars, and at 136.00-05 yen, down from 137.34-38 yen. (dpa)
