Newly Redesigned $10 Bill to be unveiled in 2020 to feature Face of a Woman

The Treasury has announced that US paper currency will have a face of woman. It will happen for the first time in more than a century that a picture of woman will be on an American banknote. Earlier, it was happened for the two times that women have featured on US paper currency.

On Thursday, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew said that a $10 bill has been redesigned and will be unveiled in 2020. It will have photo of a woman who has added to and represented the values of American democracy.

For now, name has not been decided. The note release date coincides with the 100th anniversary of women getting the right to vote. Lew said, "Our paper bills and the images of great American leaders and landmarks that they depict have long been a way for us to honor our past and discuss our values".

Lew also affirmed that their decision to have a woman on the $10 bill shows their ideology and aspiration for the future as well as it reflects the past. The department said that it will take public opinion in town hall meetings and through the hashtag. Public suggestion will be taken on whose image should be on the bill.

In 2013, the decision was taken that the new bill will have photo of woman. With this decision, Alexander Hamilton, the first secretary of the treasury, picture will be replaced. Lew said that the US currency acts as the world's reserve currency.

They have to maintain that level and also in their design, security measures and a tactile feature to improve accessibility for the visually impaired will be the main drivers.
