New Wearable Device offers Help to monitor Sun Exposure
According to data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 3.5 million cases of skin cancer emerge in the United States each year. A new technology may better the plight of many people to stay safe from bad effects of the sun on your skin.
JUNE, a new device, could be worn as a bracelet or a brooch. JUNE contains UV sensors to keep a watch on sun exposure throughout the day. A free iOS app is required for JUNE to function and provide a daily sun forecast. The device helps you get details of the expected UV index and whether or not you require to pack sunscreen, sunglasses or a hat.
UV index helps you know the expected risk of UV radiation from the sun on a scale from 0 to sun-scorched 15.
JUNE has been created by blending newer tracking technology with sun protection, and many competitors want to climb aboard the bandwagon of the device. For example, Violet is a new wearable in production. Sources have revealed that it's a small, waterproof clip-on tracker being designed to offer real-time UV exposure as well as alerts about potential skin damage. It is also capable of calculating daily natural vitamin D production.
However, it's a real challenge to get people to use those devices.
"We confuse education with inspiration. We think reminding you to use sunscreen, cover up, and educating you as to why it's a good idea is enough, but most of the time, that's not the case", said Dr. Joseph Kevdar, an associate professor of dermatology at Harvard University Medical School.
