New round of Israeli strikes on Hamas buildings in Gaza City

New round of Israeli strikes on Hamas buildings in Gaza City Gaza City  - Israeli jets bombed the Hamas cabinet building and the presidential headquarters used by the radical Islamic movement ruling Gaza, in a new round of airstrikes Tuesday night.

The cabinet complex in south-west Gaza City had already been targeted in previous days, but the final blow completely levelled it to the ground, witnesses said.

The Gaza City presidential compound of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that was taken over by Hamas 18 months ago when it seized control of Gaza, was also hit again and further destroyed, with the palace still standing but badly damaged.

Gaza City meanwhile was plunged in near total darkness, with residents saying the only lights they were seeing were those of ambulances driving through deserted streets, as large parts of the city were without electricity for the third uninterrupted night. Many apartment buildings have also been without water for as many days, as pumps have stopped operating because of the power blackout. (dpa)
