New Moms and Dads Constantly Share about Parenting and Child’s Health on Social Media
On Monday, National University of Michigan CS. Mott Children's Hospital poll was released. As per it, these days new moms and dads are sharing almost everything about their babies and daily routine with them on social media.
Whether it is about spit-up or potty training, new parents are posting all the details on social media. The poll found that more than 50% of mothers and one-third of fathers discuss parenting and their child's health on social media sites, including Facebook and Twitter.
One of the mothers who took part in the survey said that she posts about her 16-month-old daughter about once a week on Facebook. She posts when her daughter does something cute. But she shared that some of her friends share about their babies two or three times a day.
Sharing has many benefits like new parents might not feel much isolated at home with their new infant. As per the poll, around 70% of parents affirmed that they used social media to take advice from other parents and 62% said that this way they feel less worried.
"This opportunity to connect with people helps a little bit. It's not answering every question that you have, but it does give some tips, and help parents feel less alone", said Sarah Clark, associate director of the poll.
Around 75% of the parents polled said that they have seen other mothers and fathers who do 'oversharenting' meaning posting things like embarrassing stories, inappropriate photos and information through which child location can be identified.
There were many parents who shared that they were worried that their children would feel embarrassed after some years when they will come to know about it.
