Tokyo  - Mitsubishi is offering a new 1.5-litre entry model for the Lancer range with an output of 109 hp and a top speed of 189 kilometres per hour.

The new Lancer 1.5 is also offered in the "Inform" and "Invite" editions. All models come standard with electric windows, central locking and electric exterior mirrors.

A host of safety features include front airbags, knee airbag for the driver, front side airbags and head airbags for the front and rear passengers. Anti-locking brakes (ABS) and an Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) are also standard.

The four-cylinder engine taken from the Colt has a consumption figure of 6.1 litres per 100 kilometres with a carbon dioxide emission figure of 144 grammes per kilometre.

The top speed for the Lancer Sportback is slightly less at 181 km/h with an average consumption of 6.3 litres and a CO2 figure of 147 g/km. (dpa)
