Nepal Govt more into plans than statute making: Koirala
Kathmandu, Oct 19 : Nepali Congress (NC) acting president Sushil Koirala has said that the government is giving more priority to formulating ambitious plans rather than drafting a new Constitution.
Speaking at a function here on Saturday, Koirala argued that the current government is similar to a caretaker one and that it should not be unveiling big economic plans.
"The main responsibility of the government is to ensure how the best democratic constitution can be drafted," he said.
Koirala said Maoist leaders were confusing people by giving conflicting statements on ''People''s Republic.'' They were describing the term ''People''s Republic'' variously in various contexts. There is a big difference between the statement and actions of Maoists.
“Nepali Congress would not join the government until the Maoists completely stopped the unruly activities of Young Communist League (YCL), return all private properties seized during the conflict period, manage their combatants in ways other than integrating them in the Nepal army and completely disband the people''s government,” he added.
"Nepali Congress is not in favour of pulling down the government. The tenure of the government would depend on its activities," he said
Koirala said that Maoists combatants should not be integrated in the Nepal army as Maoists themselves currently control the army.
"The induction of Maoist combatants in the Nepal army would only demoralize the latter," he added, Kantipur reported. (ANI)
