A report has been released by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which says one in eight is not aware that they have HIV. As per the report, about 156,300 of 1.2 million HIV sufferers are not aware regarding the condition that causes AIDS.

The federal government is looking forward to spread 90% awareness; many states are working in this direction as they are taking measures to endorse HIV testing.

It has been warned by experts that at present, efforts that are being made against AIDS and HIV aren't sufficient and if the most affected countries do not increase their efforts to control the spread of the disease, it may rebound in just five years time.

As per a report from the UNAIDS and Lancet Commission, the rate of new HIV infections was not declining at a rapid rate, even when there have been exceptional progress for increasing access to HIV treatment worldwide.

According to Prof Peter Piot, director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and lead author of the report, "We must face hard truths - if the current rate of new HIV infections continues, merely sustaining the major efforts we already have in place will not be enough to stop deaths from Aids increasing within five years in many countries".

This reason together with high demographic growth in countries that are some of the most affected ones, is leading to the increase in the number of people living with HIV who would need to undergo antiretroviral therapy in order to survive.
