NCTC decision should be in consultation with the states, says Jaya
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has said that the decision to form a National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) should be taken after consultation the states.
She told Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that the anti-terror cell should be set up only after considering the views of the state. She had earlier expressed her opposition to the setting up of NCTC and again voiced her opposition to the decision.
She wrote a letter to the Prime Minister stating that she has learned that the government is aiming to set up NCTC under the union home ministry. She reminded him of the opposition expressed by various chief ministers to such a move.
"I am sure that you will recall the views expressed by several chief ministers, including myself, against the NCTC emerging as a single point of control for counter terrorist measures at the special conference convened for this purpose, under your chairmanship in May 2012," she wrote.
She also requested him to communicate the draft of any such proposal for consideration by the states in the country. She added that any such process can only be carried out after consultations with the state government.
