On Monday, Naxalites beheaded a villager at Korchi, about 15 km from Bhamragarh in the southern part of Gadchiroli.

They reportedly stormed the house of Biju Renge (25), who worked for Nationalist Congress Party candiate Dharamrao Atram in the state Assembly elections.

The Naxalites reportedly dragged Renge out of his house, took him to a nearby jungle and beheaded him.

The Maoists later branded him as a police informer.

It was said the Left-wing extremists were disgruntled over the reasonably good 62 per cent polling in the district despite their boycott call.

Earlier, on Saturday, Mahendra Narote (26) of Kulbhatti village in north Gadchiroli was killed by the Naxalites for being a ‘police informer’.

Narote had been on the hit list for a long time. ]

It was alleged that Narote had helped the local police during the state Assembly elections and encouraged villagers to cast their votes.

This might have irked the Maoists that led to the gruesome killing.

“Neither Mahendra nor Biju was a police informer,” said Manoj Sharma, additional suprintendent of police, Gadchiroli.
