Nawaz wants Muhsarraf to be tried for treason over Kargil misadventure

Nawaz SharifLahore, June 3 : PML-N leader and former premier Nawaz Sharif has demanded that President Pervez Musharraf should be tried in treason cases for the Kargil issue, his November 3 action, and the Jamia Hafsa carnage in which a large number of students were killed.

Talking to media at Lahore Airport before leaving for London, Sharif said interview of Lt Gen Gulzar Kiani aired yesterday supported his stand that he was not informed about Kargil Operation, reported The News.

Gen Gulzar had said that Musharraf was solely responsible for the Kargil and that even Nawaz Sharif and Corps Commanders and the investigating agency ISI were not briefed ahead of Kargil conflict. He said that Nawaz was briefed at a very later stage, by then the conflict had already begun.

Musharraf made false accusations against him in his book, the PML-N chief said and added that time had proved that Kargil was a misadventure but he left no stone unturned to protect national prestige.

He said that he had already demanded constitution of a commission to probe into the issue.

About the PPP’s proposed Constitutional package, he responded he has received the package and his party would review it in a meeting, started today in Islamabad. He said the party's opinion about the package would be communicated to Asif Zardari. (ANI)
