Natural cosmetics, too, can cause contact allergies

Natural cosmetics, too, can cause contact allergiesFrankfurt  - Some ingredients in natural cosmetics can cause contact allergies, pointed out the German Cosmetic, Toiletry, Perfumery and Detergent Association (IKW) and the German Allergy and Asthma Association (DAAB).

Balsam of Peru, used as a fragrance in soaps and after-shave lotions, sometimes provokes allergic reactions, the groups said. So does propolis, a common component of creams and eye makeup.

In general, the IKW and DAAB advised, allergy sufferers and people with sensitive skin should check the list of ingredients in natural cosmetics against their allergy ID. If their skin itches, flakes or reddens after applying a cosmetic, they should see a dermatologist or allergist. (dpa)
