Myanmar premier to visit Indonesia, Singapore "soon"
Yangon - Myanmar's prime minister, General Thein Sein, is to visit Indonesia and Singapore shortly in response to invitations from the leaders of the two South-East Asian countries, state media reported Friday.
"At the invitation of his excellency Dr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, president of the Republic of Indonesia, and his excellency Mr Lee Hsein Loong, prime minister of the Republic of Singapore, Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar General Thein Sein will pay official visits to the Republic of Indonesia and the Republic of Singapore in the near future," The New Light of Myanmar reported.
Thein Sein met the two leaders two weeks ago at the summit of the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Thailand.
He is to meet them both again at the upcoming summit of ASEAN and its six main regional partners - Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea - April 10-12, also in Thailand.
Myanmar's lousy human rights record and failure to implement democratic reforms tends to dominate debates at such ASEAN summits.
ASEAN consists of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. (dpa)
