Musharraf to take oath as civilian President by December 1, says Qayyum
Islamabad, Nov 24: President Pervez Musharraf will give up his uniform and take oath as civilian President for another five-year term by December 1, Attorney General (AG) Malik Muhammad Qayyum has said.
The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan has directed the Election Commission (EC) to issue the official result of the October 6 presidential election, Qayyum said.
He said that the Supreme Court did not need to make a formal announcement about its verdict as it has already dismissed all six petitions filed in this regard.
Qayyum said that the apex court would now inform the EC about its decision in writing.
Musharraf will take oath as civilian President when the new Army Chief assumes office, the Daily Times quoted Qayyum, as saying.
He also said that the apex court’s decision validating the emergency order and the Provisional Constitution Order had not come under the doctrine of necessity, but had been taken in the national interest. (ANI)
