Musharraf Neglects Meeting With Karzai
In the evening, the government announced that the Pakistani president, General Pervez Musharraf will skip a meeting with Afgan President Hamid Karzai. The General’s eight years rule has been challenged by the opposition parties and Islamic militant groups.
The Associated press reported, “The Pakistani government may impose a state of emergency because of “external and internal threats” and deteriorating law and order in the volatile northwest near the Afghan border.”
General Musharraf’s administrators announced that the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz will lead the Pakistani delegation to the joint peace jirga.
Afgani president Hamid Karzai announced to arrange meeting on Sunday with president bush at the presidential retreat at Camp David, Maryland.
Relations between general Musharraf and Karzai are not fair for some time. In Washington, state Department spokesman Sean McCormack said: “Musharraf has good reason” for staying in Islamabad. He refused to elaborate, but said Karzai and Musharraf had discussed the matter and “the process is moving forward.”
Sean McCormack said: “Both of them have an interest in seeing this process succeed,” “And they both have an interest in seeing greater cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan and Pakistan in fighting violent extremism. It’s important to eth future of both the countries.
After Al Qaeda’s attacks in United States in September 11, 2001, Taliban fighters were operated by Afghanistani power.
The United States is trusting Musharraf to fight with a new agenda in nuclear-armed country. But the Musharraf was always in issues to curtailing democracy since he came in the power. Musharraf was also criticized in own country to suspend the top ranked Pakistani judge, Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry.
According to official sources Musharraf is meeting to the opposition leaders to arrange support to improve his weaker political line.
