Muralidaran backs Samuels following chucking allegations
Sydney, Jan 2 : Spin legend Muthiah Muralidaran has backed West Indian all rounder and Melbourne Renegades teammate, Marlon Samuels in the ongoing chucking debate over all rounder's bowling action.
Brisbane Heat coach Darren Lehmann was reprimanded and received a suspended 3000 dollar fine by Cricket Australia for publicly questioning the validity of Samuels'' fast 120km/h off-spinners, News. com. au reports.
Muralidaran has said the Renegades and Samuels are bewildered by what appears a storm in a teacup over an action cleared by the International Cricket Council in 2011.
Murali said Samuels didn't take Lehmann's comments seriously. Murali added that he didn't have to encourage Samuels as there was nothing wrong with ha action, and the opposition coach mentioned it.
Muralidaran echoed former South African spinner Johan Botha''s support for Samuels in the lead up to Wednesday's Big Bash League clash against the Strikers at Etihad Stadium.
Adelaide Strikers captain Botha believes only biomechanical testing can determine if Samuels is within the constraints of the 15 degree straightening of the elbow permitted.
Murali said that it is very difficult with to detect faulty actions with the naked eye, adding that you go to testing and do the proper thing and from that you can see if he is doing anything wrong. (ANI)
