The Mumbai police on Saturday arrested a Mumbai-based TV actress named Urvashi Dhanorkar for torturing a 10-year-old girl who was employed as a maid at her residence at suburban Versova.

It is learnt that the girl had been beaten up by Dhanorkar about a week ago after she was caught eating some food from the refrigerator. Moreover, the actress did not even allowed the injured girl to go out of the house for several days.

Confirming the development, Senior PI Kailash Ghamande of the Amboli Police Station said: “A week ago, Rameshwari (the girl) helped herself to some food from the refrigerator, for which Dhanorkar allegedly banged her head against the wall. Besides her swollen forehead and red eyes, Rameshwari has sustained burn injuries on her forearms, ostensibly made with a heated spoon. She was also punched on her face repeatedly.”

Interacting with the media persons, the girl said that she was beaten up regularly and often not given enough food to eat. The girl hails from Amravati in Maharashtra.

Later in the day, Urvashi was produced before the magistrate's court at Bandra, which released her on bail of Rs 10,000.
