Mozambique still has no money to organize third local elections
Maputo- The Mozambique's National Electoral Commission (CNE) still has no money to carry out local government elections in November for lack of financial resources, the head the country's electoral body said Thursday.
CNE President João Leopoldo, told public television TVM, the commission "does not have yet the necessary money to finance local elections scheduled for November
19."
"The third local elections will cost 16 millions dollars, and the proposal has already been sent to the government and is awaiting appreciation and approval," Leopoldo said.
The money, he said, was needed for the logistics involved in the process, including the transport of voting material, and to "avoid past problems" of allegations of vote rigging. (dpa)
