Mourinho takes a swipe at Becks

Mourinho takes a swipe at BecksLondon, Mar. 30 : Inter-Milan boss Jose Mourinho has launched a thinly-veiled attack on England mid-fielder David Beckham, accusing him of going to America for money only.

Beckham became one of the highest paid players in football when he left Real Madrid to join LA Galaxy in July 2007.

But the former Manchester United star made little impression on the pitch and joined Italian giants AC Milan in January.

The deal was initially a short-term loan arrangement set up to help him stay fit during the Major League Soccer off-season.

But a string of impressive performances have seen Beckham extend his stay at the San Siro until the summer, meaning he will miss half of the MLS campaign.

And Mourinho - who is in the US to view the facilities for Inter's forthcoming summer tour - has slammed the 33-year-old's actions.

He said: "What do I think about football in America? They need people who are not thinking of coming here to take money and then leaving, but people who want to work in this country to insert themselves into American football."

The tour will see Mourinho come up against former club Chelsea for the first time since his departure in 2007, as well as AC Milan and Club America. (ANI)
