More responsibility for Nandan Nilekani
India's leading IT Company Infosys' former chief Nandan Nilekani has been associated with government for quite sometime now. The responsibility range of Nandan Nilekani in the government has widened as the former chief has been assigned as a technology advisor for projects that are undertaken to ensure effective tax administration and financial governance.
Mr. Nilekani is already heading the panel for the Congress's much awaited and ambitious UID (Unique Identity Card) project.
The added responsibility to Nilekani is just another example after the UID project as to how much confidence the UPA government has in his management skills. They believe in his ability to infuse transparency in the system and make sure that the benefits reach the needy. The UID project for 2010-11 has been allocated a whopping Rs 1900 crore. The project team is all set to roll out the UID nos. this year.
Divisions like Tax Information Network, New Pension Scheme, National Treasury Management Agency, Expenditure Information Network, Goods and Service Tax and the technological issues associated with them will be looked after by Nandan Nilekani.
