More than 600,000 Britons disappear from Facebook

More than 600,000 Britons disappear from FacebookAccording to a new report, more than 600,000 users in the UK did not visit Facebook in the month of December, indicating a new trend in the social networking space.

The figures released by monitoring firm SocialBakers showed that 600,000 British Facebook marked the biggest loss for any territory around the world for the largest social networking site. It is believed that the users are concerned about uncertainty over the firm's privacy policies as well as fatigue of using the network. Some suggested that having too many friends was also a reason for the users for staying away from the virtual network.

The American social networking giant has disputed the figures. Facebook said that the data is designed for advertising and does not show the actual number of users accessing the site in the month of December.

"Some of these reports use data extracted from our advertising tool, which provides broad estimates on the reach of Facebook ads and isn't designed to be a source for tracking the overall growth of Facebook.

We are very pleased with our growth and with the way people are engaged with Facebook - more than 50% of our active users log on to Facebook in any given day," the company said.

Data showed that the UK is the sixth largest market for the company with 33 million unique users in December. US has the highest number of users at 169 million unique users per month, ahead of Brazil with 65 million and India with 63 million.
