More than 4,000 fans to visit Taiwan to see boy band Fahrenheit
Taipei - Taiwan has invited more than 4,000 fans from East and South-East Asia to meet the boy band Fahrenheit in Taipei to boost tourism to the island, the Tourism Bureau said Friday.
The 4,200 fans are from Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and other countries. The get-together, called Wish to See You in Taiwan, is to take place Sunday at the National Taiwan University Gymnasium, the bureau said.
The band is to perform and interact with the visitors for an hour and a half, but the event was expected to bring millions of tourist dollars into Taiwan because the fans were to stay in Taiwan for several days, go on sightseeing tours and go shopping.
Fahrenheit was set up in 2005 and has released several Chinese-language albums. It four members - Calvin, Jiro, Chun and Aaron - have appeared in television dramas and appeared in advertisements.
Sunday's event is similar to two meetings the Tourism Bureau held between the F4 boy band and their fans - one in 2006 and one in 2007 - each attracting 5,000 enthusiasts.
In 2008, Taiwan received 3.84 million foreign visitors, failing short of its goal of 4 million.
Of the total, 1.77 million were tourists, up 7.69 per cent from 2007, while 881,431 were business visitors, down 5.3 per cent from 2007. The rest were foreigners coming to Taiwan to study, work or for family reunions. (dpa)
