Minnesota Woman files case against California firm for falling sick after eating cucumbers
A Minnesota woman has filed a case against a California company whose salad made her sick. After eating cucumbers, which may have contained salmonella, Kathleen Dvergsten fell severely ill on August 14 and also remained hospitalized for almost a week.
Dvergsten shared that she is suing Andrew and Williamson Fresh Produce, Inc. On Friday, the company has voluntary recalled ‘Limited Edition’ brand cucumbers. The company is unaware if the cucumbers are involved in the outbreak that has made nearly 300 people sick in 27 states.
As per the lawsuit, it is the duty of the company to sell safe and fresh food items. It also says that the company owes unspecified compensation for medical expenses and suffering to the sufferer. The Centers for Disease Control has issued a recall of cucumbers.
In total, 27 states are involved in the outbreak and 11 people have been infected. According to the CDC, the infected cucumbers have been imported from Montana and were distributed by Andrew and Williamson Fresh Produce.
The supplier has distributed the stuff to many eating joints and stores in different locations including Sam's Club, Wal-Mart, Albertsons, Safeway, Costco, Olive Garden, and Red Lobster.
The company said, “The safety and health of the consumers who buy our products have always been the highest priority for us. I bring our produce home to my family, that’s how much I believe in the produce we buy, ship and sell”.
