Millions of patients to profit from GP shake-up
Andrew Lansley, the Secretary of Heath will be declaring the welcoming of the take-up of the Coalition's controversial new GP commissioning strategy today. He told that doing away with the traditional method of commissioning primary care was part of his target to destructive the NHS.
In spite of the opposition from Labour and some GPs, the greatest radical shake-up of GP care in six decades will now move further on time. It is going to witness £80 billion being passed on to GPs for beginning to take control of commissioning services for patients.
There is going to be 52 new consortia, beginning the whole phase-out of Primary Care Trusts, which will be declared today.
In the start, there are going to be 8 in London, 4 in the East of England, 3 in the East Midlands, 3 up in the North East, 13 in North West, 15 down South, 3 in the West Midlands, and a couple in Yorkshire and Humber.
Mr. Lansley said that the take-up drills a hole into the argument that GPs are not in support of the alterations. Both the BMA and Royal College of GPs have shown concerns regarding the strategies that were initially revealed in a newspaper in July.
