Microsoft launches Kinect for Windows SDK

Microsoft launches Kinect for Windows SDK Software giant, Microsoft announced that Kinect for Windows SDK is now available through free download via Microsoft Research.

The company said that SDK will allow developers to create new uses for the motion-based system. It includes drivers, APIs, device interfaces, installer documents, and resource materials for developers.

The developers build applications with C++, C#, or Visual Basic by using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010. The company had first announced plans for Kinect SDK in February. The company said that the SDK includes features including raw sensor streams; skeletal tracking; advanced audio capabilities; sample code and documentation; and easy installation.

The depth sensor, color camera sensor, and four-element microphone array in SDK allows sensor streams and the developers build upon the low-level streams that are generated by the Kinect sensor.

Among the audio capabilities, SDK includes acoustic noise suppression and echo cancellation, beam formation and integration with the Windows speech recognition API. The company said the 100MB SDK will install without any complex configuration.
