A pact which sees a unison of the two software biggies Microsoft and Amazon which shall have cross-license agreement in which both the companies will be have a right of entry to one another's patent assortments.

Although it is offers great deal of advantage for the internet based company which intends to pay Microsoft for its admittance as on the other hand Microsoft with its vast list of patented products will be licensed to sneak into Amazon's Linux-based servers and Amazon's Kindle.

According to corporate vice president and deputy general counsel for intellectual property and licensing at Microsoft, Mr. Horacio Gutierrez, "Microsoft's patent portfolio is the largest and strongest in the software industry, and this agreement demonstrates our mutual respect for intellectual property as well as our ability to reach pragmatic solutions to IP issues regardless of whether proprietary or open source software is involved."

It is believed that Microsoft is in the spree of inking deals as it wants to avoid all sorts of licensing or patent battles in future. Since the launch of IP licensing program in December '03, it has roped 600 licensing deals which include brands like Apple, HP, LG, Nikon, Novell, Pioneer, and Samsung. It also is in talks with Lexmark for the printers and other multipurpose products.
