Michael LaCour admits to Lying about study funding

On Friday, Michael LaCour, the UCLA graduate student who has been under scanner for forging data and not being honest about the sources of funding for his research, has sent 23-page document to many media outlets unveiling his part of story.

In the 23-page document, he has confessed of lying about how his study was funded. "I also take full responsibility and apologize for misrepresenting survey incentives and funding", said LaCour.

As per his study, a 20 minutes conversation with gay person could bring changes in California voters' minds on same-sex marriage. Last week, the study's co-author Donald Green from Columbia University, retracted the study. On Thursday, Science issued an official retraction.

Independent scientists have assessed the data and found it to be statistically too good to be true. This has led a UCLA investigation, which for now is pending. In the letter, LaCour also admitted to destroying the study's raw data, but said that he has done so in order to protect the privacy of the study participants.

BuzzFeed News is one of the media outlets receiving LaCour's document. It has reached out to scientists who first pointed out and published irregularities in LaCour's work.

The researchers responded through mails, "In our view, none of the claims made in LaCour's response meaningfully address the concerns articulated in our report, Professor Green's retraction request, or the Science retraction".

It is now being said that LaCour's co-author, Donald Green, has not been able to identify several loopholes. Experts suggest that he must have confirmed the source of funds.
