Karachi, Dec. 12: Keen to make domestic cricket in Pakistan more attractive, former Pakistan cricket captain and now Director General of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Javed Miandad has announced a new format.

Miandad told a press conference here on Thursday that now domestic cricket would not be run on the basis of regions but on the basis of eight associations and eleven departments.

The new proposed associations include North Punjab, South Punjab, Lahore, Federal Areas, NWFP, Balochistan, Karachi and Sindh cricket association while in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, the matches between regional and departmental teams would be held simultaneously.

The News quoted Miandad as saying that this system would be implemented from next year, and added that some minor changes are likely to be made.

He said that the players were not given monetary help in the past due to which not only cricket but every game witnessed a debacle.

Miandad said that he planned to take national cricket back to the future.

For Miandad the future of Pakistan cricket will be bright if the PCB encouraged incentives-based cricket and encouraged departments to come forward and field their teams in domestic competitions.

The legendary batsman told `The News' in an interview here on Thursday that: "We need a system that works for us."

"We should have a set-up that is based on our own economic realties rather than aping what's going on other countries," he added.

"Youngsters will only come and play cricket on a full-time basis if they have job security and that can only be achieved if we have departments, companies and multinationals forming full-fledged teams by hiring cricketers," he said.

He said that the PCB will soon make contacts with all major business houses in the country and encourage them to establish their cricket teams.

"What we are aiming at is to build Pakistan through cricket," he said.

He also assured that all top Pakistani cricketers will play in major domestic competitions.

Miandad also said that he has offered China to train their top cricketers at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore.

"I've talked to (China's coach) Rashid Khan and told him about the offer to train Chinese cricketers at the NCA," said Miandad, who was last week appointed Pakistan's cricket ambassador to China by President Asif Ali Zardari. (ANI)
