Miami teacher convicted of engaging in illegal sex
Federal authorities have revealed that a former Miami teacher has been convicted of traveling from Chicago to Thailand to engage in illegal sex with minor boys.
A Department of Justice release said on Friday that after a four-day trial, Charles Todd Stokes, 48, was found guilty of engaging in sexual contact with about 70 boys under age 15, with 30 of them under the age of 13.
Stokes, who taught physical education in the Miami-Dade school system from the mid-1980s into the late 1990s, faces a maximum 30 years in prison.
The release further said that he is scheduled for sentencing August 26.
Gary Hartwig, special agent-in-charge of U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Chicago, said, "Working closely with our overseas partners, ICE will continue to identify individuals who travel for illicit purposes, and we will pursue justice for abused children regardless of where they live."
