Meta unveils 3D glasses metaPro

MetaAugmented-reality start-up Meta on Tuesday introduced the world to its debut commercial 3D glasses called metaPro.

The metaPro will allow users to not only see 3D objects from their computers and smartphones, but also to manipulate them.

The glasses, which are still under development, feature two LCD displays with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels, each with 40 dergrees field of view. The upcoming glasses also features two RGB cameras, 3D surround sound, a nine-axis integrated motion unit with accelerometer, compass and gyroscope.

The list of its other striking features includes an Intel 1.5GHz Core i5 CPU, 32WHr battery, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11n WiFi capability.

However, all those striking features come at a considerable price. The metaPro has been priced at $3,000. Meta Chief Executive Meron Gribetz however assured that the high price tag should drop as volume increases.

Speaking on the topic, Gribetz said, "Right now, they cost about what the first MacBook Air did when it came out, but the price will change significantly as volume increases."

Meta is not the only start-up that is trying to challenge well-established companies like Google in the field of augmented-reality. Start-ups like Oculus and Atheer Labs are also on the way to bring their augmented-reality devices to the market.
