Melody Queen Noor Jahan a forgotten memory in Pakistan

Melody Queen Noor JahanLahore, Dec 24: The fifth death anniversary of Melody Queen Noor Jahan passed off silently on Sunday.

Noor Jahan was born on September 21, 1926 and died on December 23, 2000 in Karachi of heart failure.

Noor Jahan's cinematic and music career spanned four decades. She played central roles in over 26 movies and sang songs for over 1,000 films. She sang several national songs during the 1965 war that were a huge hit. She sang songs for Punjabi, Urdu, Sindhi and Hindi films.

She was given the title of Mallika-e-Tarranum (Queen of Melody).

The Daily Times quoted that a Noor Jahan fan, Muhammad Ibqal, as saying, “The madam is still widely popular with people five years after her death. She is no more, yet her soothing melodies are with us to remind us of her great talent.”

Some of her famous movies are Mirza Ghalib (1961), Patey Khan (1955), Mirabai (1947), Badi Maa (1945), Humjoli (1946), Jugnu (1947), Khandaan (1942). (ANI)
